In the majority of cases of thoracic pain imaging is not indicated. In the presence of red flag signs and symptoms urgent referral is recommended without primary care imaging which could result in delays.

In absence of trauma or red flags reassure patient, recommend movement exercises and encourage maintaining function. Consider medication management and MSK service referral if no improvement
